Vijayadashami or Dassera is celebrated on the tenth day of the month of Ashwin. It is celebrated as Durga Pooja in Bengal. Vijayadashami is celebrated in honour of Lord Rama's victory over Ravana. On this day, Goddess Durga also killed the demon Mahishasur. So this day is celebrated as the victory of good over evil. Vijayadashami is celebrated with great joy and fervour all over the country. Ramlila is performed in many towns, cities and villages. Effigies of Ravana and Kumbhakarna are burnt. The day of Vijayadashami is considered to be very auspicious. People decorate their houses with festoons made of marigold flowers. They worship their vehicles anpapd tools. Vijayadashami is, indeed, the day of victory of good and truth over evil and untruth.
