Essay on "My Favourite book" in English

To read books is essential to make one's heart to live in peace and delight. Books have great importance in man's life. Good books develop the power of mind and soul. I have read many books in my life but Shree Ramcharitmanas composed by Goswami Tulsidas appeals me the most. This is the book that guides us in every walk of our life. This book is composed by Goswami Tulsidas in sixteenth century. As is clear from its 5 name, the hero of this famous book is Maryada Purshottam Lord Rama. His life was full of idealism, abandonment, kindness, patience, knowledge, asceticism and morality. The holy cheracter of Lord Rama has been described in this sacred book. The language of this book is Avadhi. It has seven chapters, which are in the following order - Bal Kand, Avodhya Kand, Aranya Kand, Kishkindha Kand, Sunder Kand. Lanka Kand and Uttar Kand.

Couplets and verses of four lines are chiefly used in the Ramayana. The great poet started writing the Shree Ramcharit Manas in 1631 (Vikram era) and completed the work in Vikram era 1633. This is a holy as well as famous book.

This is an everlasting great book for Hindus. It is useful for men, women, children, old and young equally. It provides solutions to all the problems of human life. For all these reasons the book, Shree Ramcharitmans has become my favourite book. I study this book every morning so that I may keep all its ideals in my heart.

2. Essay on "My Favourite book" in English

Books are our never-failing friends and they provide the reader the bliss of solitude. Books give good knowledge, In return they never expect anything. Books are windows to the world. They are our eyes and ears and minds. A good book may be very useful for us while a bad book may do great harm to us. A book gives us company. A book increases our knowledge. It improves us mentally and spiritually.

A person sitting in Mumbai can be transported to Africa or Japan through books. Lying on a sofa, one can easily travel to the Eiffel tower or to the Taj mahal through books. Through books, one can learn about Abraham Lincoln or Mahatma Gandhi or the Rani of Jhansi.

One book that has influenced me immensely and has become my favourite is the prose version of the epic Ramayana, written by C. Rajagopalachari. The style is simple and the book is very interesting. Once I take up the book, I can't put it down.

The writer has portrayed the three main characters of Rama, Seeta and Bharata quite vividly. Rama, as Rajgopalachari presents him, is selfless, sacrificing and totally interested in the welfare of his subjects. Seeta is a devoted wife, ready to undergo any hardship or suffering for the sake of her husband. Bharata is a glorious example of brotherly respect and self-sacrifice. Bharata's love for Rama has no parallel, and has become almost proverbial.

There are many other minor characters in the book and each plays an important role in the development of the story. Jatayu is one such key character. Hanuman is another. Both were loyal and devoted to Lord Rama.

The Ramayana upholds basic human virtues such as devotion, loyalty and service, and condemns baser qualities like greed, selfishness, passion and lust for power. This is a work that one can read for pleasure as well as profit. I have read and reread it many a time. It refreshes my mind and inspires my soul.
