I
love and respect all national freedom fighters. But among them all, Pandit
Jawaharlal Nehru is my favourite. Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru is highly regarded as
one of the renowned dignitaries not only of India but also of the world.
Jawahar Lal Nehru came from an aristocratic family. His childhood passed in a comfortable atmosphere at Anand Bhawan in Allahabad. He received his early education at home. Thereafter, he went to England to get higher education. After returning from England, he came under the influence of Mahatma Gandhi. That was the turning point in his life. He decided to dedicate his entire life to the selfless service of his beloved motherland.
In 1916, he was married to Kamla. She was a true helpmate to him in his life. A daughter named Indra Priyadarshani was born in his family in 1917 A.D. He struggled hard for the freedom of India and was imprisoned several times. Mahatma Gandhi always turned to him for advice. He proudly called Jawaharlal his political heir. He knew very well that the country would be safe in his hands.
After Independence, Jawaharlal Nehru became the first Prime Minister of free India. During his premiership, India advanced industrially and agriculturally. He did his best to improve the condition of our country politically, economically and socially. He always followed the principles and ideals of Mahatma Gandhi. His name will ever be remembered as an apostle of peace. He was recognized as a world leader. He worked for world peace.
Nehruji had much affection with the children. They called him “Chacha Nehru”. Even today his birthday is celebrated as “Children's Day." Nehru was, also, very fond of nature.
In
his death, India, as well as the entire world, lost a leader. He sacrificed everything for the
sake of freedom, and welfare of his country.
