Diwali is one of the important festivals in India. Diwali
or Deepawali is the festival of lights. It is one of the most
colourful festivals of India. The word Deepawali means a
row of lights. This festival normally falls in the month of
October or November. It comes 20 days after the Dussera
festival. People clean and decorate their houses a few days
before Diwali. Goddess Lakhsmi, the goddess of wealth is
worshipped on this day. People wear new clothes and go to
temples to offer prayers. Children burst crackers on this
occasion. People visit their friends and relatives and
distribute sweets to them. At night they light oil lamps and
burst crackers. It is believed that Diwali is celebrated to
mark Ram's return to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile in the
forest. This festival brings happiness and light to the minds
of the people. On this occasion, people send Diwali greetings to their friends and relatives. Diwali is a very enjoyable festival.

They wish one another a Happy New Year.
