Expansion of Idea - 'United we stand, Divided we fall.'

"United we stand, divided we fall" is a phrase used in many different kinds of mottos, most often to inspire unity and collaboration. 'Unity is strength' is a very popular saying A house divided against itself cannot stand. What is true of an individual is also true of a nation. A nation which is united is strong, while one which is broken into fragments and divided within itself finds it difficult to resist an enemy in any form. One person alone cannot do everything. He/ she requires a team to accomplish particular goals. When a group gets divided, each of its members falls. This is so because unity is essential to carry out specific tasks.

Since childhood, children learn various stories on integration. Even the elders always tell us to stay united and not fight amongst each other. This is so because everyone is aware of the fact that unity is essential in every field to get successful. It was the lack of unity that weakened our nation and we lost our freedom. History is witness to many such events that brought about the destruction of nations. We suffered at the hands of the British owing to this weakness. The internal misunderstandings and quarrels among the Kings and Maharajas made it possible for the Britishers to exploit the situation and conquer our country by resorting to divide and rule'. They initially had come only to trade but finally became rulers. They followed the policy of divide and rule and became successful.

But as soon as the leaders and people united against them. they were forced into quitting forever. Therefore the saying is applicable in all fields of life. We should remember, it is easy to break one stick at a time but a bundle of sticks cannot be broken and the saying, United we stand, Divided we fall.
