FLOOD SITUATION GRIM IN GUJARAT
Gujarat, July 2
Cyclone followed by relentless rain and floods ravaged Gujarat. The entire State was inundated with flood waters and hundreds have been rendered homeless. Even after five days of the flood, relief operations were kept at bay due to inclement weather as army personnel struggled to clear roads to reach those marooned.
According to the government, rescue operations are in full swing with the airforce flying helicopters and dropping food packets and medical supplies in the flood-ravaged areas. Thousands of people are feared dead. The threat of an epidemic is reported to have loomed over a large part of the state.
Meanwhile, the Central government has already sent a team to assist the relief operation works.
