Muharram is one of the important festivals of the
Muslims. It is the first month of the Muslim year.
Muharram is a month of sorrow. Imam Husain was a
great Muslim religious leader. Muslims remember him
on this day. Imam Husain fought against Yazeed.
Yazeed was a very wicked ruler. On the tenth day of
Muharram, Imam Husain and his followers were killed
in the battle of Karbala. Muharram is a sad reminder of
that battle. During Muharram, the Muslims hold holy
meetings. They wear black clothes. On the tenth day,
the Tazias are taken out in processions. They are the
reminders of martyrs of the great battle of Karbala.
It was fought for truth and justice. Muharram brings
social harmony and brotherhood among people. People
of all religions join the Tazia processions.
